One of the greatest truths we can teach our children is that God loves them unconditionally. In a world that can sometimes feel uncertain or confusing, kids need to know that God’s love is constant, unwavering and personal. But how do we help them truly understand the depth of His love? It’s not just about telling them—it’s about showing them through our words, actions and everyday experiences.
Through fun, interactive and meaningful activities, you can help your children not only understand God’s love but also experience it in their daily lives. Here are nine beautiful ways to teach your kids about God’s amazing love.
Tell Them the Greatest Love Story – The Gospel
The best way to teach kids about God’s love is by sharing the story of Jesus. Explain how God loved the world so much that He sent His only Son to save us (John 3:16). Try using storytelling, puppets, or even acting it out to make the message engaging and memorable.
Show Love Through Everyday Actions
Kids learn best by example. When they see love in action—through kindness, patience and forgiveness—they begin to understand God’s love. Simple things, like a gentle hug, a kind word,or a helping hand, reflect God’s love in a way children can grasp.
Use Nature to Show God’s Love
The beauty of creation is one of the most visible signs of God’s love. Take a nature walk and point out the wonders of His creation—the sky, the flowers, the birds—and explain how God made everything out of love. You can collect leaves, rocks or flowers as reminders of God’s thoughtful care.
Memorize Bible Verses About God’s Love
Help kids hide God’s love in their hearts with simple verses like 1 John 4:8 (“God is love”, Romans 8:39 (“Nothing can separate us from God’s love”), or I Corinthians 13 (“Love is patient.”). Turn the verses into songs or hand motions to make them easy to remember and fun to learn. To help you out, The Groundnuts Family has a whole Bible songs playlist of memory verses. Check it out here.
Teach Them to Pray with Confidence
When kids understand that God loves them, they’ll feel more comfortable talking to Him. Encourage them to pray freely about anything—joys, fears, dreams—just like they would with a loving parent. Parents should pray with their kids daily, showing them that God is always ready to listen.
Illustrate God’s Love with Simple Object Lessons
Use visual examples to demonstrate God’s love. For instance, pour water into a cup until it overflows to show how God’s love never runs out. Use a flashlight in a dark room to represent how God’s love shines no matter how dark things may seem.
Make a “God’s Love” Scrapbook
Encourage kids to draw or cut out pictures of things that remind them of God’s love—family, friends, food, sunshine, etc. This is a wonderful way for kids to see God’s love in everyday blessings. Look through the scrapbook often and add to it throughout the year.
Encourage Acts of Love and Kindness
Help kids understand that because God loves us, we should love others too. Challenge them to do one kind act each day—helping a sibling, sharing a toy or writing a kind note. Emphasize that love is best understood when it is shared.
Reassure Them That Nothing Can Separate Them from God’s Love
Kids sometimes struggle with fear, guilt or feeling unworthy. Remind them that no mistake, no bad day, no failure can ever take away God’s love. As Romans 8:38-39 says, “Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.” Speak this truth over their children daily. (The Groundnuts also have a song about it here.)
